BNZ Museum
This Museum showcases nearly 150 years of banking history in New Zealand. It is a living archive of the bank and those that interact with it; customers, staff and the community. Exhibits track the development of all facets of banking while providing a fascinating insight into the heritage of our country.
Static, audio-visual displays and hands-on activities are combined to present a multi-layered and exciting museum experience.
The task involved relocating the existing BNZ Archives museum components from the existing Willis St, Wellington site, previously developed in 2004 to the new Aotea Quay BNZ waterfront site - adding some new physical and interpretive components.
New joinery, partitions and display cases were required to ‘refit’ existing components and to present new stories and content selected specifically for the new space.
With its reduced floor area, the new museum is a more dynamic space using large AudioVisual displays with less artefacts, but these presented to work with the more contemporary, daylight-filled spaces and marketing opportunities.
